Sports: Motorcycle riding
Motorcycling increases the risk of back pain because of the exposure
to vibration in a flexed position, which promotes muscle contraction
and an overload or lesion to the intervertebral disk. In some specialties,
such as trial or motocross, the vibration, the maintenance of certain
postures, and/or the muscular strain are even greater.

It is recommended
To follow an exercise program to develop the spinal musculature.
Exercises that are adequate for some may prove inadequate for others;
it is therefore convenient to undergo a physical examination and
a muscle assessment by a physician to determine the best program
for each individual case.
To try to minimize vibration by using a motorcycle with
an adequate suspension system.
To do stretching exercises and some flex movements of the
spinal column beforehand.
To use a girdle, especially in those cases where the person
is going to ride on the motorcycle for a long time, in order to
decrease vibration and muscular effort.
To stop riding, if possible, approximately every 30 minutes,
in order to strech the back and walk around a bit.
