Visual Analogical Scale characteristics
It is a very simple scale that reflects the intensity of the pain
that you are suffering today.
The original reference is "Hiskisson EC. Measurement of pain.
Lancet 1974;2:1127-1131".
Studies have demonstrated that scales values reflect the intensity
of pain and its course reliably. It is therefore used to evaluate
the course of pain intensity in a person over a period of time,
but it is not used for comparing the intensity of pain in different
people.
Pain is always subjective. The Visual Analogical Scale allows
a consistent determination to be made under such subjectivity, but
it does not comparethe subjectivity of different people.
For instance, if a person who assessed his pain as 5 points on
the Visual Analogical Scale two weeks before now determines that
its intensity is 2 points, it can be reliably deduced that his pain
has impoved. But that does not necessarily mean that the intensity
of his pain is less than that of another person who assessed it
as 6.

section.
